The first cars named “Skyline GT-R” were produced between and under the model code KPGC10, and enjoyed legendary success in local Japanese touring car racing. As with the racing vehicles a strengthened engine block and stroked crankshaft were utilised.

The only other change was the removal of the carbon akyline bonnet which was replaced with the standard aluminium bonnet. The power is fed through a new six-speed close ratio Ghr34 gearbox.
